BYD Expands Global Footprint with New EV Assembly Facility in Cambodia and Ongoing Investment in Southeast Asia

As reported by Indonesia’s Chief Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto in January, BYD is set to inject $1.3 billion into the Indonesian project.
Luhut Panjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, confirmed in a March 19th Instagram post that BYD intended to commence construction of the Indonesian factory in July. According to Panjaitan, BYD expressed strong interest in the Indonesian market, with ambitions to initiate commercial production at the new manufacturing site by early 2026.
These developments underscore BYD’s aggressive expansion strategy in Southeast Asia, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading player in the region’s growing EV sector. By establishing robust manufacturing capabilities across key markets, BYD is well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions.
